The Yagyu Code: Secret Scrolls | More than 20 years after Ieyasu’s founding of the Edo period, at a crucial time when the establishment of a permanent Tokugawa government was on the line, the third shogun, Iemitsu, had successfully completed his shogun proclamation ceremony and was about to embark on a new life. At this juncture, a piece of paper was posted in the great hall of Edo Castle: “If the secrets of the Bugeicho become public, even the hollyhock will wither overnight.” Rumors quickly spread that the Bugeicho, also known as the Yagyu Bugeicho, contained a hidden conspiracy that threatened the fate of the shogunate.
